Professional Profile Draft 1
My name is Seren Whyte and I have recently graduated from Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. Originally from Swansea, South Wales I moved to London to follow the dream of being a performer as I have always loved singing, dancing and acting.
Since graduating I have been working professionally within the performance industry and seemed to have fallen into the niche of presenting with my sister. We have become a presenting duo 'The Whyte Sisters'
Elise and Seren, the first ever sibling presenting duo. As sisters, we share a unique on screen chemistry that cannot be recreated. This is down to the fact that we can tune into the ‘twin thing’ meaning that we almost always know what the other will say and can finish each other’s sentences. We are, and have always been best friends and have lived and worked together our whole lives, which creates fantastic banter between us. We follow the 180 degree rule, Elise on the left and Seren on the right, which we have done subconsciously since we were small. I decided to undertake the BA Hons Professional Practice course to help me develop my career further. I feel at this stage in my career I will benefit greatly from the course as it will help me network with other professionals, improve my managing skills and enhance my career opportunities. Let me know any changes you think I need to consider. Thank you |
What is Web 2.0?
I had never even heard of the Web 2.0 concept before this course, but it turns out I have been using it since I first created my myspace page back in 2004. I have a Facebook account and a professional page which is linked to my twitter (although I still don't understand hashtags), I use Wikipedia and I Google everything and anything I need information about, but I have never realised that it was part of this concept. Its only in reading the reader that I have discovered some real opportunities in the Web 2.0 online community. Instead of just using the fact that people can comment on and discuss what I post as social appraisal, I could use it to mold and enhance my professional life. I must admit that when I found out that we had to keep a blog I thought it meant in the form of a diary of how everything was making me feel not so that I could share findings and comment on others thoughts of these concepts which could potentially push my thoughts beyond my own personal limitations. Its giving you the opportunity of online debates and conversations.
One advantage to all this is that if you read a post and if you believe parts of it to be inaccurate or if you have more information on the subject that proves or improves the post, you are able to update this information so future readers can be influenced. You are able to communicate with writers and they in turn can communicate with you so that we able to see things from various different points of view. Hamilton (2000) notes that participation is a
function, in part, of the reduction of barriers to access (such as time, skill and financial
commitment) and that an increase in participation can contribute to the successful
building of relationships and the democratisation of media (Hamilton 2000, p. 371) Web
2.0 advocates that through reducing these barriers and making participation cheap, easy
and quick people are more able to get involved in the processes of collaboration, sharing
and interaction. However doesn't this mean that it is cheaper, easier and quicker for false information and even the use of these web 2.0 platforms to be used for terrorism?
One of the bubbles off O'Reillys meme is 'Trust your users' My question is should you trust them when in reality it could be anyone? Having said that though I would like to trust you to comment on this so that I can understand all this better.
I hope that if I can push my knowledge of these Web 2.0 Platforms then I can use them to their full advantage.

We have a website www.whytesisters.com which I will also work on alongside this so as this improves hopefully so will the website. Our cover letter that we have been sending out to a list of contacts we collaborated so if anyone has any tips or ideas to improve this I would much appreciate it.

What am I doing?
So having just looked through a couple of other students blogs I have managed to work myself into a frenzy and am asking myself what am I doing?
I enroled online just over 5 hours ago, I have been to work and now I want to start the first part of this course but seeing just how far other people have got already is a little scary. I know that my professional profile needs alot of work so lets get started.

Welcome to my house
So as I am welcoming you into my life I may as well open up my home. Welcome to the house of 'The Whyte's'
or as we like to call it The Whyte House. I think a very important person to introduce you to first off is my sister, I will talk about her constantly as we do tend to work together alot. Despite an age difference of 30 months we often pass for twins.
Life in The Whyte House is intense because we are both in the same industry, the highs are brilliant and we both get so excited but the lows are very low and together we end up plummeting downwards and it can take alot to try to get ourselves out of that pattern, we try to help each other out whenever we can.
My main jobs at the moment are Presenter and actress, I am employed as an actress by Hurricane Productions who do Shows that tour around schools and theatres and they have offered me Pantomime with my sister from November which is great. I also do Shakespeare shows and workshops with The Complete Works, I absolutely love Shakespeare and use his quotes often.
Then with presenting I work for Future4Science doing live Science road shows for Children with fantastic live experiments that are actually rather dangerous and usually go wrong. Then with my sister we do freelance presenting for tv, radio and corporate DVDs as 'The Whyte Sisters' this is the work that I want to push over the next year and concentrate my career in this direction.
So this is the basic informationabout me and Im sure my blogs will get more interesting as they go on but for now . . . . Goodbye
